On the tennis court he is regarded as being one of the greatest ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) hopes for the future and his manner shows almost as much routine as that of his experienced colleagues. But during a trip to the former Formula One race track Jarama close by Madrid, the hands of France's budding talent Gail Monfils (19) were damp with perspiration. The up-and-coming teenager felt just like being "in a spaceship" while he was riding in the powerful 626 HP Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren which can accelerate from zero to 100 in 3.8 seconds. Monfils – who won his first tournament in Sopot this season and has in the meantime rushed forward to position 44 in the Champions Race – described his trip as co-driver in an Actros Black Edition (612 HP/ 450 kW) truck, the flagship of the exclusive Actros series, as an "incredible experience".

 

 

 

From time to time there was even oncoming traffic on the race track for the two most powerful vehicles made by the brand Mercedes-Benz. Captured by innumer-able cameras and lenses, the crystal galaxit black SLR and the Actros Black Edition with their co-drivers Gail Monfils and Juan Carlos Ferrero drove towards each other as in an imaginary duel – but at an appropriate safety distance, however, as the vehicles were being driven by the former Spanish Formula One driver Emilio de Vilotta and Mercedes-Benz HGV works driver Peter Hoffart.

 

 

 

Local hero Ferrero (25), the former No. 1 in the world's rankings, and 23-year-old David Nalbandian (Argentina) made use of the opportunity to go round the race track at top speed, although at the Masters Series event in Madrid the pair of them are rivals for one of the last remaining places for the Masters Cup in Shanghai in November. At the moment, Ferrero is No. 11, followed directly by Nalbandian as No. 12. "I had great fun with the cars, they really are technical wonders," said a thrilled Ferrero. Nalbandian enthused about the impressive elegant and dynamic truck. "I would love to be on it for a whole day."

 

The Actros Black Edition, which is limited to 250 vehicles, is really setting new standards as far as fittings, performance and appearance are concerned. The superlative long-distance semitrailer comes up to the greatest of expectations on the basis of its extremely roomy cab alone as its fittings and accessories immediately point to the outstanding role played by the Actros series. But the SLR also attracts attention like magic: the super sports car from the Stuttgart automotive corporation can reach a top speed of 334 km/h and accelerate from zero to 200 km/h in 10.6 seconds
